Apple may introduce Light Peak with its forthcoming MacBook Pro update

Apple is planning to launch a new high-speed connection technology in the near future. However, the new technology would be a part of the forthcoming MacBook Pro update or publicized in other perspective is not apparent.

It has been years since Intel is working on a technology called Light Peak and just a few days back it also stated that the primary version of the technology would be based on copper.

It is anticipated that Apple would adopt this technology very soon, however, it would probably use a different name rather than Light Peak. Apart from this, Intel had also stated in the past that the initial products using Light Peak should come out in the global market by the middle of 2011.

Couple of years ago, Intel used a machine running Apple's Mac OS X while demonstrating Light Peak for the first time ever at its developer conference.

Intel originally publicized Light Peak as the holy grail of connector technology: a single replacement for the innumerable cables that connect to printers, scanners, external drives, monitors, and anything else that needs to be plugged into a computer.

Light Peak is considerably faster than USB 3.0, as it can transmit data at the speed of 10 GB per second in both directions concurrently. Intel also stated that the connection speeds will not be affected by the shift to copper.
