4G services might get launched in India in 2012!

TRAI, the Indian telecom regulator said that by middle of the current year it would come up with the proposal on the latest 4G technology.

It has planned to surface the consultation paper on 4G within a month so that the discussion can be started with the industry.

At TRAI we are doing our best and we expect 4G to kick start in next year and for that we have already surfaced the 4G’s pre-consultation paper.

TRAI Chairman, Mr. J.S. Sarma was present at a CII event, and while speaking he stated, "In about a month time we expect to come up with consultation paper and recommendation around middle of this year, say by June."

The telecom regulator had surfaced the pre-consultation paper last year in February, and finished the process before April, 2010. It is also believed that in comparison with 3G technology, the advanced 4G technology has 10 times more data download speed.

The data download speed of 3G technology is somewhere in-between the range of 385 kilobytes per second to 2 megabyte per second when a user is on the go. Whereas, the data download speed of 4G technology is considered to be somewhere in-between 20 to 100 megabyte per second when a user is on the go.
